Fallacies/Propaganda
There are various examples of fallacies. Down below are examples of some of
these.
these.
Image Examples
Equivocation
Equivocation is a key word or phrase that is used with two or more meanings in an argument, such that the argument fails to make sense once the shifts in the meaning are recognized. This picture is a perfect example of equivocation. It shows a quote using evolution twice in the same sentence which confuses the viewer.
False Dilemma
False dilemma is when the author is trying to present only two solutions to the reader, when in reality there are more than two possible solutions. This image shows a two- way road giving you only two ways to go in life, per say. Well, there are many choices/roads to go down in your lifetime, not just two.
Hasty Generalization
We have all seen the halarious Allstate commercials and this one is a perfect example of hasty generalization. They are stating that all teenage girls are emotional and because of that they are most likely going to crash, therefore you need Allstate. The assumption that all teenage girls are emotional and because of it they will crash is not true because they are not considering all of the factors at hand.
Text Example
In the article, "The Challenge of Food Waste", the authors are trying to persuade the audience into trying out technologies to help them reduce food waste by using the appeal to the popular approach. This is because they keep stating how retailers do not use technology to their advantage like they should be and then go on to give examples of how other retailers, that they are currently working with, are taking advantage of it. In a sense, they are doing it so why aren't you?
